Schwartz Chemical Company, Long Island City, 1997

Built in 1906 as a power station for the Pennsylvania Railroad, closed in the 20's, turned into a chemical factory in the 50's, and now abandoned. The four smokestakes are a prominent feature of the Queens waterfront and were painted by Georgia O'Keefe in the twenties in her series "Across the East River."
