Dream City
Taken in 1974 from Ellis Island when it was abandoned.
In another minute the morning fog had burned off.
The TV tower as well as the World Financial Center had yet to be built.

Update, September 13, 2001
I'm back home in my apartment in the West Village, finally able to check my e-mail and guestbook. This photo seems to be particularly meaningful to people now after the destruction of the towers. When I was growing up the towers were just being built and I loved to photograph them juxtaposed with the rest of the city. This always been one of my favorite photos and I'm not yet sure how I now feel about it. It's certainly changed. The skyline now will always have a huge hole in it and I'll never see it the same again. All those lives lost. And I don't think our place in the world will ever be the same again either.

I've put some photos of life in New York in the few days after the collapse of the towers at modern-ruins.com/buehler/september11

Many have written about buying prints of this photo of the World Trade Centers. I've made a limited edition of 100 signed and dated archival 8x10 prints and have been forwarding all proceeds to the United Way's September 11 Fund. Just let me know if you're interested by writing me at pwbuehler@aol.com or signing my guestbook. I'll send you my address and you can send me a check for $50 made out to the United Way September 11 Fund. -- Phil
