From the top of one of the observation towers you can look down at the floor of the N.Y. State pavilion. I remember my brothers and I marching across New York State, passing all the stars marking the Texaco stations ("You can trust your car to the man who wears the star, the big bright Texaco Star.") I wonder if my dad would have survived that trip with the three of us in the backseat of our '55 Chevy.

From the official guidebook:

On the main floor the Texaco Oil Company has inlaid a mammoth map of New York in terrazzo, and here visitors gather to watch school and community groups perform.

I've been collecting the stories people have sent. Here's one related to this photo:

"I remember vividly the 64-64 World's Fair. I still drive by on occasion, at one point I did stop and walked into the NY Pavilion. It took me back to the time as a boy I was able to locate my hometown of Kingston on the floor map, during that magic summer of 1964. The image was still there!"
